A three man carvel built Canadian Canoe by Lakefield Canoe Co . Ontario, Canada circa 1910. Traditionally built  of many cedar strips and ribs held with copper rivets. A rare survivor.

Thomas Gordon was building canoes for sale  in Lakefield  since the late 1850s under the name of the Thomas Gordon Canoe Co, while in 1860 the Strickland Canoe Co. was established. In 1892, Robert Strickland founded Strickland and Co. to produce board canoes. The name of the firm was changed to the Lakefield Canoe Co Works in 1900, by 1904, Gordon and Strickland combined and reorganized the business as the Lakefield Canoe Co. This firm was eventually absorbed into the Lakefield Canoe and Manufacturing  Co., which was established in 1918 by E. R. Tate.

Owned by me for 18 years. After some professional restoration work when purchased the canoe was used for a number of seasons and but little in recent years. Further work was carried out 2 years ago but unused since. The canoe has been kept well varnished and should be useable without further work. There are two paddles but no mast.
